I’ve only gotten into American Idol a couple of times in the history of forever and this season I’m watching, but swiftly losing interest. I just don’t really care who wins. Many of the contestants are decent, and heaven knows I love a guy with long curly hair (hello my fantastic husband!), and I just think any one of them could win. It doesn’t really matter.
So tonight was sing a song by Lennon or McCartney night, which makes me nervous. I grew up in a Beatles-loving household. The Beatles are sacred, and I get annoyed when people try to do The Beatles. (Unless you are that adorable girl who was on Rock Star: INXS who sang Imagine and actually really kicked some butt on it; makes me cry every dang time.)
So game time blog readers. Pick your Lennon or McCartney song and tell me which one you would do on American Idol. And I promise not to be annoyed at you. Bonus points for recording yourself and putting it on YouTube. I’ll actually make you a cake if you do that.
My pick…this is really hard because I’m actually a George Harrison fan and the most obvious choice for me is Here Comes the Sun…

Gah, I’m going to change my mind in about 20 more seconds.
My 4 year old picks “Blackbird.” Okay, really she’s in bed, but trust me, she would pick “Blackbird.” I started teaching it to her a few weeks ago and it’s the sweetest dang thing you’ve ever heard.

I am a huge beatles fan. i started watching american idol tonight but had to leave. i'll have to watch it tomorrow. i'm a little worried about those loosers butchering some good songs! blackbird is the first song that came to mind. only because I love it and I can play it on the guitar. wahoo! I also love Julie, In my life, golden slumbers.. and the list goes on and on.
Okay, I love the Beatles. My brother, who is 48, is their biggest fan. He got to see Paul live and said it was the concert of all concerts. When I was little he used to make us do air bands to the Beatles. He always got to be Paul. My other brother was John, my sister was George and I was always Ringo...
Anyway, I don't know if anyone could do them justice on Idol but I think the song Eleanor Rigby would be cool. Someone could probably arrange it differently; well. My life, Blackbird, Norwegian wood, A Taste of Honey - those would be cool too.
Ooh, we did a really cool jazz arrangement of Blackbird when I was in high school jazz/mad choir.
So I won't pick that.
Instead, I'd have to do "Across the Universe." Beautiful song.

I would totally rock it out and do "Oh Darling". Get all bluesy and stuff, I love it!
