1977

I'm kind of new to American Idol. I never watched it with any regularity until last season when the lovely David Cook was on. But I've been watching this season pretty regularly. Last week was the week when the singers choose a song from the year they were born. I always thought this would be fun, so I've been thinking about songs from the year I was born. Come on, 1977 was an AWESOME year for music! I thought it would be a no brainer and I would choose "Emotions" by Samantha Song and the Bee Gees, but upon further research I find out that that version actually came out in 1978. Drats.

Here are some of my options:
How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees
Rich Girl by Hall and Oates
Dancing Queen by ABBA
Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue by Crystal Gayle (I had this record when I was a kid and it was my very own! LUCKY.)
We Are the Champions by Queen
You're in My Heart by Rod Stewart
Cold as Ice by Foreigner
Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney and Wings

I don't know how to pick! I'd like to sing Rich Girl because it's a rockin song and we all know how I like to curse, but would they let me curse on American Idol? I really love Rod Stewart so I'd love to sing You're in My Heart. I feel a little extra qualified for this one since in second grade some kid told me I had Rod Stewart hair (sadly he was right). Maybe I'm Amazed gets a little too screamy at the end. Let's be honest, I have to choose the Bee Gees. But only if I can get my hair feathered just right.

So hey, if you're reading this, then do your research and leave me a comment with your song choice. Then get prepared because next time I see you in person I'm expecting a performance. I'll play the part of Simon Cowell (or Paula Abdul depending on the amount of sleep I've gottten and/or the kind of drugs I've taken that day).

You totally have to do Crystal Gale! You can sing out your sorrows.

Sorry, but 1979 will kick '77's butt any day of the week. i get to choose from:

Tragedy - Bee Gees
My Sharona - The Knack
Heart of Glass - Blondie
I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick

When it comes down to it, I'd go with Blondie for $200 please Alex.

I have a lot of great choices from 1983:

Every Breath You Take - Police
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Do You Really Want To Hurt Me - Culture Club
Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners

But my ultimate choice would be Flashdance...What A Feelin - Irene Cara.

I will have my rendition ready for my next appointment....just make sure you you have yours ready too. :)

1983...
Men at work - Land Down Under.
Or anything Michael Jackson, Human Nature would be fun too.

Don't it make your brown eyes blue, I still love that song. Oh no, now I'm singing it in my head :)

What a cool idea

"Jungle Boogie" - would be fun but I don't think I can pull it off.
"Ricky don't lose that number" - I love some good Steely Dan, but again, could I pull it off? Probably not.
I think I'll go with "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band.
Now, when are we holding our contest?

We really were born in an awesome year! I'm not choosing one because I don't sing. (:
