Just a sample of craziness
Once upon a time we had a daughter. We carefully chose her name--Victoria Ruby. As her parents, we believed that this was our choice. After all, our parents had the freedom to name us whatever the heck they wanted to, right? Then one day, when our beautiful Victoria Ruby was just a few days old, my dear husband received a phone call from his mother. It went something like this.
Court: Hello mother. (Editor's note: Court always says "Hello
Mother" when he talks on the phone with his mom. I know it sounds formal
but picture it with a very friendly tone.)
Gladys: Courtland! (This is how she always responds to the
"Hello Mother.")
Then I'm sure there were some friendly exchanges at this point which I wasn't privy to. Let's get to the juicy part, shall we?
Gladys: How is my baby? (Wait, I thought she was my
baby. Did I not just suffer a horrid pregnancy and then proceed to
deliver the baby through my own.... well, you get the point. Apparently my
babies really belong to my mother in law.)
Court: She's great!
Gladys: You didn't ask me if I liked her name.
Court: What?
Gladys: You didn't ask me if I liked her name.
Court: Okay, do you like her name?
Gladys: Well I like Victoria, but I do not
like the name Ruby.
I have to say that I don't know what Court said to her at this point because this is the point when I stopped listening to him repeat the tale to me. Who does that!?!?!
So then later that same day she calls back and says "Your dad is making me call back and apologize because I was rude."
Oh yeah?

LOL! Totally funny!
LOL!!!!! That's so funny that she had to call back to say sorry!! Oh, goodness. I've never heard of anyone saying they didn't like the name.
Ah, Gladys. You just gotta love that woman. And bless Court for being so cool coming from such craziness!
Kate,
She is so cute.
I am also deeply crushed, your MIL owes me an apology, too and you know why!!!!
Your retelling of this situation is hilarious!
Next time she says something, say, "At least I didn't name her Victoria Apple. Or Victoria Ignatious. Or Victoria shmictoria...".
Or whatever!
Drama princess. Totally true. I'll try to solicit an apology in your behalf.
Or.... Victoria Gladys!! ;)
LOL!!! I'm glad she *apologized*.
Yeah, she must have been hoping for Victoria Gladys!!
You make me laugh!
Don't you just love mothers-in-law? Mine can be pretty tactless too. By the way, I love the name Ruby!
Ugh, my mother-in-law calls Audrey her baby as well. It annoys us to no end. Um, she's not yours!!! Gah.
Poo on her; I like both names. She wouldn't know good taste if it bit her in the rear.
